BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A shootout on the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, early Sunday between at least two parties left one person dead and five people wounded, police said.
Police responding to reports of gunshots just after 2 a.m. in west Birmingham found a car that had crashed into a utility pole, Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a video posted on the social platform X.
The driver was dead. Officers found another man unresponsive with a gunshot wound at a nearby gas station. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Fitzgerald said dispatchers reported four other men showed up at hospitals with gunshot wounds. They were expected to survive. Multiple vehicles and one business were also struck by gunfire, he said.
